To design, establish, and operationalize the 10-hectare Chikwa Ecovillage within a 5-year timeframe.
A self-sufficient North Chikwawa Eco-District of ~150,000 people, anchored by a thriving Chikwa Ecocity, that stands as a global model for climate resilience, food Sovereignty and regenerative living. The initial Chikwa Ecovillage will be the first light of this vision, proving its viability and inspiring its expansion.
In Malawi, a land of vibrant culture and immense potential, many communities face a cycle of persistent challenges. The very resources they depend on are under strain.
The forests, which have provided for generations, are shrinking. The soil, once rich and fertile, is becoming depleted. This ecological stress creates a cascade of human challenges: food can become scarce, clean water is a daily struggle, and the reliance on charcoal for cooking affects both the landscape and family health. Economic opportunities are often limited, making it difficult for families to build a secure future.
For too long, well-intentioned but conventional aid projects have offered temporary fixes that don't address the root causes. They often fail to build lasting resilience or empower communities to own their solutions.
We recognize that there is a better way. A way that works with the Earth, not against it. A way that is built by the community, for the community.
The Chikwa Ecovillage is our answer. It is a conscious choice to move from a model of dependence to one of self-sufficiency. By blending time-honored Indigenous knowledge with proven sustainable techniques, we are not just building houses—we are cultivating resilience, restoring the land, and creating a living blueprint for a future where people and the planet can thrive together.
